Half the size. More powerful than ever. Here’s what it took.
In hardware, smaller usually means less powerful. With Pod 6, we aimed to build a Pod that was more powerful, while also making it half the size, quieter, more precise, and at a lower cost to the user. Better in every way, and with no trade-offs.
The Pod 6 result?
- A Hub that’s 50% smaller than Pod 5
- 20% faster temperature relief
- 9x more biometric sensors embedded on each side of the Cover
- 4x faster priming time, down to 5 minutes
- The lowest price in Eight Sleep history
Getting there meant rebuilding the entire system from scratch.
“The challenge was to build something more powerful thermally, quieter, but half the size of what existed before. We had to rearchitect the entire product from scratch.”

Shrinking the Hub
Reducing the Pod’s power system to half its height required rethinking every component inside the Hub. Heat pumps need surface area to move heat. Fans need clearance to move air. So the first challenge was determining which components could be scrapped.
Previous generations stored water in a removable tank located in the Hub. Finding another way to store the system’s water meant unlocking a considerable share of the total volume.
For Pod 6, this old water tank structure is replaced with a smaller, integrated water reservoir. With the tank gone, the thermal engine, airflow path, and electronics were redesigned around a footprint roughly half the size, while being even more powerful.
A powerful engine built from scratch
With the smaller footprint in place, the next challenge was how to redesign the Hub’s thermal engine, including heat pumps, heatsink, and power supply that move water (and therefore cooling and heating) in and out of the Cover.
To take the Pod from a 400 W thermal power supply to 550 W required adding three thermoelectric coolers on each side instead of two, then redesigning the heatsink to manage the additional load.
The challenge? More power in a smaller Hub meant more heat to move, and more air to actually move it. The team solved this by changing the Hub’s airflow with a new functional exterior design. The Hub’s new ribbed fin architecture is shaped to reduce airflow resistance, with micro airfoil profiles that minimize flow separation. The new airflow system also helps reduce the sound of air leaving the Hub, so the Pod runs more quietly despite how hard the Pod is working.
This work resulted in a temperature response that is 20% faster than Pod 5, giving members quick relief from hot flashes, night sweats, or chills when they need it most.

“The Pod is probably one of the most complex consumer products out there. Our electromechanical complexity is much closer to that of a car than it is to a smartphone.”

Designed to disappear
The bedroom is the most personal space in the home. Pod 6 was designed to belong there without announcing itself.
The warm, deep black finish recedes into the room rather than occupying it. The texture is matte, non-reflective, and precise to the touch. Every surface detail, the curvature, the proportions, the way the lid moves, was considered individually.

“Craftsmanship here is spending a lot of attention to every detail, the curvature, the proportion, making sure every little detail is just right. You end up with a product that feels considered, precise, and resolved.”

Priming in five minutes, not 20
Priming is the process of filling the Pod with water before first use. To prime Pod 5, you had to fill a removable tank at your sink, inserting it into the Hub. It would take about 20 minutes for it to fill the Pod 5 Cover, and up to 90 minutes for previous generations.
Pod 6 primes in just five minutes.
Now, you pour the water directly into the Hub from a pitcher, and the system actively draws it in, matching its pump speed to your pour rate. To ensure you aren’t pouring at a pace the Hub can’t support, an LED light guides the process: flashing blue means pour, red means pause, white means priming is complete.
How does the Pod know how much water is in the reservoir, moment to moment, while it’s being poured? Sensors inside the reservoir register the change, and the Hub adjusts pump speed to keep pace so the system can tell you when to pour and when to wait.
More sensors for enhanced data accuracy
Pod 5 had one primary biometric sensor per side of the Cover. Pod 6 has nine on each side, creating a spatial grid embedded across the surface of the Cover.
The increase in sensors gives the Pod a better picture of where each sleeper is on the bed and distinguishes one sleeper’s biometrics from their partner’s, regardless of how they’re positioned. This helps maintain accuracy despite partners sleeping close together, or a child or pet crawling into bed.
The sensor array was tested on 1,000 covers under real-world conditions, then validated against medical-grade reference devices in clinical studies. Learnings showed improved accuracy for metrics like sleep stage tracking, heart rate, HRV, and breathing rate, now near parity with medical-grade references. This data feeds directly into Autopilot, closing the loop between measurement and adjustment in real time.
“What this additional density of sensors allows is spatial resolution of where signals are coming from and how they’re moving throughout the night. We can distinguish two proximal signals and preserve the highest accuracy for each sleeper.”
— David He, VP of Research & Development
Pod 6 Solo: Cutting the Cover in half
Pod 6 is the first generation of the Pod to offer Solo sizes. The idea went from brainstorm to sewn prototype in one week. Solo Covers fit Twin and Twin XL, or one side of Queen, King, or California King. The same temperature control, biometric tracking, and Autopilot intelligence as the full system, just in a Cover designed for one sleeper.
The new sensor architecture made it possible. Nine sensors per side means a half-width Cover maintains full tracking accuracy across its entire surface.
Plus, you can zip two Solo Covers together into a full dual-zone system. Start with one side. Add the other when you’re ready.

An advanced system, in every dimension
More powerful. Half the size. More precise. Faster to set up. More accessible. No compromises.
“It’s an optimization of space, cost, and performance: bringing together electrical, mechanical, and software engineering to create the best product we could possibly create.”
