Introducing Autopilot 3.0, our most personalized, responsive version to date.

Autopilot is the intelligence behind the Pod that personalizes your experience to give you an ultimate night of recovery. Learn more about how Autopilot improves sleep >

Earlier this month, we launched a major advance in sleep improvement to all Eight Sleep members: Autopilot 3.0.

Trained on over 1.2 million hours of sleep, Autopilot 3.0 is hyper-personalized and responsive so that you can sleep better than ever.

  • Autopilot 3.0 reviews your sleep trends and personal patterns minute by minute, making temperature adjustments to help you get more time in each sleep phase.

  • It does this in real-time, but also by reviewing your previous night’s sleep to learn what sleep phases you’re running low on.

  • Lastly, and most importantly, it considers your biological sex when making temperature selections, plus over a dozen other factors from previous Autopilot versions like local weather, sleep preferences, and more.

All Eight Sleep subscribers automatically receive the latest Autopilot 3.0. All you have to do is make sure Autopilot is on, and sleep.

Autopilot 3.0 deep dive

Autopilot 3.0 updates in real-time based on your current sleep stage and your sleep quality last night.

When compared to Autopilot 2.6, members on Autopilot 3.0 experienced several important changes.

  • Total sleep time (TST): How long you sleep during the night excluding wake time

    • If you generally get more than 7 hours of sleep per night, you can expect up to ~10 more minutes of total sleep time per night.

    • If you generally get less than 7 hours of sleep per night, you can expect up to ~20 more minutes of total sleep time per night.

  • Deep sleep: Important for muscle recovery and strengthening your immune system

    • If you typically get below-average deep sleep (less than 15% of sleep per night), you can expect to get 1.5 more hours of deep sleep each month.

  • REM sleep: Important for emotional processing, memory consolidation, and brain development

    • Regardless of how much REM sleep you typically get, Autopilot 3.0 increases your REM sleep in the first half of the night by 3-5 minutes or up to 2.5 more hours per month.

    • Having more REM sleep earlier in the night means that if you happen to wake up earlier, you’ll feel refreshed the next day.

  • Wake after sleep onset (WASO): Less WASO means better sleep quality and sleep efficiency

    • If you suffer from insomnia and you’re typically awake for more than 30 minutes per night, Autopilot 3.0 will reduce your wake time by 6 minutes on average. This means 3 hours less wake time per month spent lying awake tossing and turning in the middle of the night.

We have seen even larger improvements in sleep metrics when comparing Autopilot 3.0 to Autopilot 2.0.

  • All members see increases in REM (+6.5 min) and TST (+9.5 min)
  • Those with below-average sleep see large increases in REM (+15 min) and TST (+50 min)
