Cal | Why I joined Eight Sleep

I’m surrounded by the highest performers who consistently raise the bar on greatness. We completely rebuilt our iOS & Android apps in the span of 3 months, wiping out 7 years of technical debt. This herculean effort was only possible with deep collaboration across Design, Product, and the rest of the company.

Cal’s journey at Eight Sleep

When did you join Eight Sleep? What was your role when you joined, and how has it evolved over time?

I joined Eight Sleep in June of 2024 as a software engineer. Stepping forward to the present, I now play a larger role in leading our Mobile engineering efforts and making sure our apps consistently deliver a premium experience.

What were you doing before, and what made you want to join Eight Sleep?

Before Eight Sleep, I worked at a promising startup that aimed to change the way we discover new products. Joining Eight Sleep was one of the easiest decisions I’ve made in my life – the combination of paying more attention to my own health and my poor relationship with sleep led me to seek answers. The chance to improve the lives of so many people including my own was not an opportunity I could turn down.

What’s one project or moment at Eight Sleep that you’re especially proud of?

We are athletes in pursuit of optimizing human potential through sleep.

What’s something small – but meaningful – that makes working here different from other places?

When you message or call someone, you can expect a response almost immediately. The shared sense of urgency is contagious and makes every day exciting. 

What’s your favorite non-work related memory with your colleagues?

Padel with F1 Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc! He’s an Eight Sleep investor and ambassador.

How do you feel supported to grow professionally and personally?

Being at Eight Sleep is akin to being challenged on a daily basis. If there’s a shortcut to grow fast in your career, it’s working at Eight Sleep.

Just for fun

What do you like to do in your free time?

I enjoy traveling and playing racquet sports (mostly tennis, but have developed a new appreciation for padel)

What’s your go-to Pod temperature settings?

A nice chilled combination of the Blanket & Pod at -5, and then waking up toasty at +5 to start my day.
