If you’re one of the millions of women struggling with hot flashes at night, you know how negatively they impact your sleep quality. By 2030, 1.2 billion women—14% of the global population—will be menopausal, and about 80% of them will experience hot flashes. These sudden surges of heat can make it nearly impossible to get a good night’s rest, leading to groggy mornings and lower quality of life.
The Pod offers a science-backed way to keep you cooler and more comfortable throughout the night—and now, it’s getting even better.
Meet Hot Flash Mode
We’re excited to announce the launch of a new feature on the Eight Sleep Pod: Hot Flash Mode. This mode is designed specifically for women experiencing hot flashes and heat events during the night. It offers a fast cooldown that can be activated manually through the Eight Sleep app or tap to control (the buttons embedded on the side of the Pod). After a period of targeted cooling, the Pod gradually goes back to your baseline sleep temperature to help you fall back asleep more easily.
This feature was inspired by years of consistent feedback from our members, especially menopausal women, who told us that while the Pod reduced the frequency of hot flashes, they wanted to cool down faster when a hot flash strikes, and then have the Pod return to a comfortable sleep temperature after the hot flash is over. We listened and built Hot Flash Mode with exactly that experience in mind.
Backed by clinical research and rigorous testing
To design the mode, our Clinical team analyzed data from over 1,200 menopausal women sleeping on the Pod who logged more than 13,800 cooling and rewarming events to understand the average intensity and duration of cooling needed for effective hot flash relief. We also conducted a dedicated clinical study to test the feature’s impact during real-world use.
How the Pod’s Hot Flash Mode provides relief
In a two-week study, 16 menopausal women used Hot Flash Mode during sleep a total of 122 times and on average 6x per week. The results were very compelling:
- 78% of women said Hot Flash Mode was more effective than other solutions they had tried for managing nighttime hot flashes.
- 8 out of 10 women felt relief within just 10 minutes of activating the mode.
These findings build on previous research from Eight Sleep’s Clinical Research team, presented at the 2025 SLEEP conference in Seattle, WA. That study evaluated how the Pod’s Autopilot feature (i.e. temperature regulation) impacts nighttime hot flashes and symptoms in menopausal women (see here for the peer-reviewed abstract).
How the Pod’s continuous cooling reduces hot flashes
38 menopausal women slept on the Pod for 10-14 nights. For the first 5-7 nights, the Pod’s temperature control was turned off. For the remaining 5-7 nights, temperature regulation was turned on. Throughout the night, participants logged the time at which a hot flash occurred. And each morning, they completed surveys about their menopausal symptoms.
The results? When the Pod was on, women experienced fewer hot flashes and more comfort:
- Hot flashes dropped by 55% on average with Pod on, going from 13 to 5 hot flashes per week
- 92% of women had a decrease in hot flashes with Pod on
- On average, women reported a 15% improvement in overall menopause symptoms and a 19% boost in physical comfort during sleep
What does this mean for menopausal women?
The Pod, now with Hot Flash Mode, is a powerful non-pharmacological tool for managing nighttime hot flashes. Whether you’re looking to reduce overall hot flash frequency or quickly cool down when a hot flash strikes, the Pod is designed to support your sleep during menopause.
