Struggling to get a good night’s sleep? Creating the right sleep environment is one of the most important steps for optimal sleep; however, this can be challenging if the sleeping environment is uncomfortable or does not promote healthy habits.
Eight Sleep’s Clinical Research team presented new findings at the SLEEP conference 2025 in Seattle, WA, on how the Pod can improve sleep hygiene and reduce daytime sleepiness.
Why sleep hygiene matters
Sleep hygiene is all about the habits and environment that help you sleep well. Things like room temperature, lighting, and bedtime routines make a big difference. But if your bedroom isn’t comfortable, even the best habits can fall short. That’s where the Pod comes in, an intelligent sleep system that fits over your bed like a fitted sheet and directly changes your sleeping environment through dynamic adjustments of temperature, elevation, and sound. Therefore, this study investigated whether the use of the Pod could impact sleep hygiene and daytime sleepiness.
What did the study do?
Researchers studied 73 adults over six months to evaluate the impact of the Pod’s temperature regulation on sleep health. Participants completed the Sleep Hygiene Index and Epworth Sleepiness Scale before the Pod and then at one month and six months after using the Pod with temperature control enabled.
Sleeping on the Pod leads to significant improvements in sleep
- After one month, participants showed significant improvements in both sleep hygiene and reduced daytime sleepiness. Sleep Hygiene Index scores improved by an average of 17%, while Epworth Sleepiness Scale scores dropped by 3.7%.
- These improvements were sustained at the six-month mark. Compared to before using the Pod, Sleep Hygiene Index scores had improved by an average of 27%, and Epworth Sleepiness Scale scores remained significantly lower, with a 3.4% average improvement.
- Users also rated their sleep environment 23% better, reduced excess time in bed (down 11%), and decreased work at bedtime (down 12%).
What does this mean?
Sleeping on the Pod offers more than just comfort –it serves as an effective way to make lasting improvements in sleep hygiene and reduce daytime sleepiness.
